Currywurst – Recipe for a great beer snack

A great snack while having a cold beer, Currywurst (sausage with curry sauce) . A very typical Berlin snack but available all over Germany. If you would like to try to make it yourself, below is the recipe for the sauce. I used Frankfurter style hot dog sausages (don’t have the proper sausage available here in CZ) .

Ingredients:
1 bottle of tomato ketchup, plain, about 500 ml
2 small onions
3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar, dark
2 tbsp honey
2 tbsp curry powder
some chili powder
1 dash of soy sauce
oil
tomato paste
water

Preparation:
Sauté the chopped onions in olive oil until translucent. Add some tomato paste and deglaze with some water. Add ketchup, balsamic vinegar and honey and simmer over low heat. The vinegar must not evaporate too quickly. Then add the soy sauce and the other spices. Stir well, if necessary add a little more water.
